Matthew Kear has Sadly Passed Away: It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew Kear, a dedicated police officer with the 1st Precinct of the New York Police Department (NYPD), on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Born on April 2, 1997, in Oceanside, Matthew was the beloved son of Stephen Kear, a former officer in the 4th Precinct, who shared the heartbreaking news in a social media post:

“It is with a very heavy and broken heart that I want to let you know our beloved son Matthew passed away on Saturday. Matthew had so much love to give, which he gave freely to everyone who knew him.”
Matthew was known for his unwavering dedication to serving others. Before joining the NYPD, he served honorably in the U.S. Navy. Inspired by his father’s footsteps, Matthew returned to Oceanside and proudly became a police officer, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

As a member of the Nassau Police Veterans Association (NPVA), Matthew actively supported fellow officers and veterans, always going out of his way to lend a helping hand. Outside of his professional life, Matthew was a passionate fan of the Buffalo Bills and the New York Islanders.
The Kear family has announced the funeral arrangements to honor Matthew’s life. Visitation will take place at Towers Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church in Oceanside.
