Don E. Gibson, affectionately known as “Gibby,” passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on January 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in his New Castle, Indiana, home. His remarkable life of hard work, family devotion, and community involvement left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Remembering Don E. Gibson
Born on June 26, 1933, in Medford, Indiana, Don was the son of Harold and Mary (Carmichael) Gibson. After graduating from Selma High School in 1951, Don embarked on a life filled with dedication and purpose. In 1952, he married his beloved wife, Carolyn Gustin, with whom he recently celebrated 72 years of marriage.
Don served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, where his discipline and commitment to service took root. Upon returning home, he ran a successful milk hauling business for 12 years before joining his family’s business at the Gibson Auction House, working as an auctioneer. Later, he spent 32 years at Delco-Remy, retiring in 1996.
Beyond his professional achievements, Don was a passionate farmer who loved antique tractors, baling hay, and caring for his cattle and pasture. He was a proud lifelong Mason with Lodge 46, a role that underscored his deep commitment to his community.
