Born on December 20, 1945, in Prescott, Arkansas, to Clyde and Georgia Miller Wake, Travis spent his early years in Illinois. He graduated from Crossville High School in 1963 and earned a degree in engineering from Southern Illinois University in 1969.

Travis moved to Richmond, Indiana, where he began his distinguished career as a product engineer at Belden Wire and Cable. His dedication and expertise led to an impressive 39-year tenure, during which he earned a patent for a hermetic lead wire. His career took him to several cities, including Wheaton, Illinois, and Dumas, Arkansas, before retiring in 2008.

A Life Filled with Passion and Family

Travis was a man of many interests and talents:

  • He loved traveling with his wife, particularly to their second home in Pigeon Forge.
  • He had a passion for horses, motorcycles, and fast cars, especially his prized 2021 Corvette, often spotted at his favorite breakfast spots in Connersville and Cambridge City or enjoying ice cream at McDonald’s.
  • His family fondly referred to him as “The Legend”, “Mr. Fix-It”, and “Self-Proclaimed Expert at Everything”, highlighting his ability to solve any problem and offer support to those around him.

Above all, Travis adored spending time with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. He was also a man of strong faith, maintaining membership at Centerville Christian Church for the past 38 years.

Travis is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Georgia Wake, and his brother, Paul Wake.
